Buried Treasure: My New Favorite TV Show

Lately, (we) I had been watching TV shows which deal about "old" things that play significant roles in history. Shows like American Pickers and Pawn Stars. These shows do not only feature vintage/antique stuff, but also the value (in $) of such things. I am fascinated by the history and how much a very small item could sell to thousands of dollars. So every Monday night, I do not missed to watch these shows (as long as the episodes are new).

This week on Wednesday, Buried Treasure premiered on Fox. Even before the show started, I was already excited just watching the promotion of the new show. This is my kind of show. Antiques, vintage, old stuff, and the equivalent value of each item based on its history, its origin. Listening to the history of a thing is quite mesmerizing. It never fails to tickle my prying curiosity. I can't believe that I love history this much when in fact I didn't like it when I was in school because I had to memorize a lot of things. My memory bank is zero. Now that's kind of exaggeration. Let's just say, if a memory bank is made of gigabytes, out of 100 I only have 1. But now that I am getting older (and memory getting worse), my discovery of liking history is a little bit surprising...and exciting.

Of course, I didn't miss watching Buried Treasure on the premiere night (with my husband). I was surprised that it was more than I expected. The show does not only feature things of my interest, but at the same time, trying to help families in financial crisis dig money from the "buried treasures" in their homes. Who would have thought that a bowl a hoarder used to place her marbles in is worth $20,000 to $60,000? She didn't know that the bowl was made in the B.C.. Cool, huh?

I love the brothers. We'll I am talking about the hosts. The Keno brothers—Leigh and Leslie. They are so adorable. Not only that. I love them more because they are twins. It is so cute to look at these two people who look a like and have the same interests. They are awesome. They are experts on their chosen fields. I am so amazed how much knowledge they have in certain things just by looking at it. As the narrator of the show said, "they are the kings of collectibles in America." Now, that is very cool to me. Last night after we watched the show, I told my husband that I now have a new favorite TV show. What else? Buried Treasure! Love, love, love the show. Love, love, love, the twin brothers. Couldn't wait to see the next episode.

If you love old stuff, collectibles, history, Buried Treasure is a show that you must watch. Very interesting, educational, with a little mix of emotional stir. It's every Wednesday, 8/7c on Fox.

Kapamilya TV Shows Come Free

Watching Filipino TV shows everyday make me feel closer to my home country. Eversince, I am a solid fan of ABS-CBN's shows. The best thing is, we don't have to pay $20+ a month to subscribe to TFC. Each TV show I watch everyday comes for free. Thanks to Pinoyberkz.com, an online resource that gives Filipino abroad (like me) a great entertainment without paying a single buck. I have been an avid viewer of this website for many months now. I am grateful of the people who run this website, giving their time and energy to upload Filipino TV shows for us to get entertained 7 days a week. Pinoyberkz has help me in many ways to take away the boredom being confined in the house. Most of all, it keeps my heart and mind closer to home everyday. Watching the news programs and even the showbiz ones somehow makes me feel like I am there, so involved with everything that's happening in my country.

There's a lot of online resources where Filipinos abroad can watch Filipino TV shows for free. But right now, I am content with Pinoyberkz.com. So far, they do a great job.

J.LO on American Idol

Alright, I heard a news this morning that Jennifer Lopez will be joining the American Idol Season 10 as judge. My first comment was, "She's ok!" I personally won't barge her presence on the panel of AI's judging table. She can actually be a valuable critic for AI wannabes. She's a good singer and dancer, she should have tons of constructive criticism or commendation to the contestants.

Well, Kara and Ellen were following the footsteps of Simon in stepping down from the judges' table. It didn't bother me at all. Since two of the pioneers of American Idol decided to vacate their million $$$$ seats, it's just right that the two newest ones leave the show too. I think it's better for AI to start anew—new faces, new judges. But how about Randy? I would love Randy to stay, and I am glad he is staying.

So, rumors say that some of the possible judges joining J.LO are Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Shania Twain, Elton John, and two others I am not familiar of. We'll see how this goes. I'm looking forward for Season 10. To J.LO, welcome to AI!

Fox 10: Greeting My Morning with Local News

I am a "news" person. Back in the Philippines, I always turn the TV on every morning to listen (watch) to local and national news. It's a daily habit that I missed doing after I arrived in the U.S.. We'll it's only a few months ago that I started to tune in to a TV channel to watch local news. At first, I was confused which one to choose. There's a lot of channels to choose from: ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX. There were times I switched channels every now and then. But I got tired of it. I needed to stick to just one channel.

I finally decided to stick on Fox 10. My primary reason for patronizing Fox 10 is they focus on local news and events 90-95% of the entire show. Plus, their local coverage is aired up to 10 in the morning unlike other channels.

I am starting to know the hosts as well. So far, I am now familiar with Rick D'Amico, Alexis DelChiaro, Ron Hoon, Cory McCloskey, and Jayme King. I actually like Cory's style of reporting compared to Jayme. I think he's more fun, lively, and gregarious. On the other hand, I couldn't help but notice Alexis' love for "red" outfits. There were weeks that she wore more red-colored outfits than any other color. I thought, "She must love reds." Rick looks dignified—and he's funny too!

Anyway, I love the fact that Fox 10 News focuses on local events. Makes me more aware of what is happening around the Phoenix Valley. Aside from that, they feature local businesses that are pretty interesting.

It's nice to sip a hot cup of coffee while watching the NEWS. Fox 10 is already a part of my morning.

American Idol Will Never Be The Same Again

Last night's finale crowned Lee DeWyze as the 9th Season winner. Actually, I was not as excited for this season as the previous ones. I am not so sure of the reasons. Paula's absence could be one. I didn't care who will win. I was not happy nor sad of the result. Siobhan Magnus was actually my favorite. She's unique and carries herself with confidence. Siobhan got her own fashion style and personality. The girl can sing. She's the female counterpart of Adam Lambert (who was my bet last year).

On their first few appearances, I liked Lee better than Crystal Bowersox. But during the last 3 weeks of competition to capture the heart of America, I think Crystal showed that she was more deserving. Her performances received more positive feedback from the judges than Lee. When it comes to "raw talent" Crystal got it. Lee had been more nervous specially during the last night of the contest. His last performances were average if not poor. But, America has decided.

Favorite Highlights

Three of my favorite highlights of last night's finale were the appearances of previous AI Season winners, Paula Abdul, and Janet Jackson.

Janet's performance of "Nothing" made me missed the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I do not know if I was the only one who noticed her voice when she sung the song. She sounded like her brother Michael. How "I wished he was still alive" as I was listening to her. I didn't hear Janet, but Michael in that song. There was pain in my heart. But yeah, I like her haircut. In fairness, she's still sexy and still dances like she's in her early 20's.

Tribute to THE MAN

So great of the AI producers and staff to bring back the winners of the previous seasons and Paula to pay tribute to Simon Cowell who is leaving American Idol for good. Will American Idol be the same without him? I personally do not think so. When it comes to the judges' table, Simon was the "soul—" let's admit it. He may have been disliked by his negative comments (often interpreted as injurious criticisms), but his straightforwardness, bluntness, and honesty of opinions on the contestant's performances were huge factors that the telephone and SMS text-voting populace consider in deciding which contender they will vote. His "remarks" are powerful. They have substance. That's what made him unique from other American Idol judges. Hate him or love him. I chose the latter.

AI's Future

Paula's out—and now, Simon. Two of the original and the most loved judges bade goodbye to AI. What happens next? Will America and the rest of the world still love it? Will it have the same impact on the TV viewers like it had years ago? No one knows. I hope if Ellen DeGeneres remains in the next season, she would express her own opinion about the contestant's performances, and not just repeat (in her own words) Randy Jackson's judgment. I wish that on the next season, when it's time for judges to give comments, it should be in random order. This 9th season, it was so systematic—Randy, Ellen, Kara, Simon. That made me think that most of the time, Ellen based her judging from Randy's—be it positive or negative. No hurt feelings to Ellen. I love her wit and humor in the show though. She's excellent on that.

Anyhow, I wish American Idol good luck. The show has helped a lot in discovering great talents and deliver them to stardom. Hopefully, they will find a good, if not great judge to replace Simon. We'll see.
