We can't deny the fact that store brand infant formulas are getting more popular nowadays over national brand formulas among parents with children ages 1 to 12 months. Why not? The answer is quite obvious: store brand formulas which have the same quality of nutritional values cost so much lesser than the name brands. Could this be the reason why Mead Johnson circulated misleading advertisement of their Enfamil LIPIL, claiming that their formula is superior to store brand formulas? I do not know. However, this type of misleading advertisement paid a price in a court battle between PBM Products LLC and Mead Johnson & Co. The Court favored the complaint of PBM Products against Mead Johnson on a false-advertising case. The Court's representative Circuit Judge Andre Davis said that Mead Johnson have been restrained from disseminating false advertising twice but still continued to do it. Obviously, the outcome was a court battle defeat for the national brand formula maker. Here's more information for your reference of the case.
It does not mean that when a product is more popular, it is superior to other competing products. Well, that depends on what kind of products too. But when it comes to baby formulas, parents should take note that the FDA will not approve and not allow any baby formula to be displayed on store shelves unless it meets their standards. The proof is on the label itself. Go try and compare the contents of a store brand formula to a national brand formula. And of course, do not forget to compare the price aside from the nutritional values each of these products have.
